As the daughter of a sculptor, my childhood was spent believing that art is everything and in everything. So I was delighted when I encountered a kindred spirit in the ever-fabulous and ever-illustrious Kim Heirston.
A fellow Ivy-League educated woman, Ms. Heirston is a bulldog who studied Art History at Yale University; from which she graduated to work in a host of prominent New York City galleries, including Pace and Robert Miller Gallery. All of these impressive details are discussed at length in Episode 007 of The Catalyst, but they’re not the reason why I reached out to Ms. Heirston. I extended an invitation for an interview with The Catalyst as it was clear to me, even as an outsider looking into her awe-inspiring life, that Kim Heirston is a woman whose success knows no bounds and is someone that is passionate about her work.
This passion can be in seen in the dynamic role she plays in each of her clients’ lives as their art advisor. A woman of many talents, Ms. Heirston has worked outside the scope of her profession as a private art advisor and undertaken a host of curatorial projects. Notably “on the occasion of the 20th G7 Summit in Naples, Italy, she commissioned artists from the forum’s seven countries to create site-specific works for a Neapolitan villa.” Known for her keen eye, she selected extraordinary women of color artists for the first-ever, all-women Sotheby’s auction, By Women, For Tomorrow’s Women. The auction was to benefit Miss Porter’s School and raised nearly $4 million dollars for underprivileged student scholarships for the school.
From speaking with her, it’s clear that Ms. Heirston extends her passion and love for art into a myriad of pursuits, both personal and professional.
When answering my question about her next act, she noted that she’s seeking to make art more accessible and that she wants her industry, from the professionals to the partakers to the art lovers like you and I, to get back to the art of viewing: art for art’s sake.
“I want to bring the world with me,” Ms. Heirston said during our conversation. One only needs to glance at her Instagram to see that Ms. Heirston is well on her way to bringing art to the masses. Notably with her new venture, NOTES ON A PAINTING.
It was a true pleasure to have been able to interview someone as accomplished, articulate, and ardent as Kim Heirston. She’s truly the epitome of a Catalyst guest: someone who is catalyzing impactful moments within their careers, communities, and countries.
If you’re interested in following Ms. Heirston’s journey as she realizes her mission of bringing art to the masses, please follow her on Instagram and stay tuned for NOTES ON A PAINTING. Be sure to visit her website as well to learn more about her private art advisory.
This episode of The Catalyst was curated with art-lovers in mind and especially for those who appreciate art for art’s sake. Kim Heirston is a titan in her industry and we at The Catalyst thank her again for making the time to share her wisdoms and truths.
