A great thing about social media is that you’re likely to come across interesting people. One of my favorite social media sites to utilize is Twitter; which is precisely where I came across Mr. Zemedeneh Negatu, an African businessman who has a habit of tweeting about relevant topics that pertain to the African continent.
As I’ve mentioned in various episodes of The Catalyst and on this website, I constantly find myself concerned about the happenings of the African continent so I was delighted to discover a like-minded individual in Mr. Negatu.
As chairman of Fairfax Africa Fund, he heads a global private equity practice but he maintains that the fun is in venture capital (as the fund does both). Focusing primarily on being “impact investors,” Mr. Negatu and the fund oversee a wealth of investments on the African continent over a typical 10-year horizon.
Speaking with him was a true pleasure as we discussed his journey to the influential position he finds himself in today––to which he humbly replied, “influence is relative”––and the various cases of impact he’s been able to catalyze on the African continent in his position as Chairman of Fairfax Africa Fund.
If you’re interested in following Mr. Negatu’s business insights about investments on the African continent, I highly recommend that you follow him on Twitter.
